ORIGINS OF TOGO & BACKGROUND
The origins of Togo name is coming from Togodo, meaning (the Other Shore). Today it’s known as Togoville, a former colonial german city, first capital of the country, East of the actual capital, Lomé.
Togo became Independent on April 27, 1960, through an administrative agreement with the French Government, under UN supervision. Internal autonomy was acquirred in 1956. Togo celebrates this year its 50th anniversary of Independence.
